Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.” -bell hooks
About Grounded Roots Therapy Collective
Our story
Grounded Roots Therapy Collective was created from a simple but powerful belief: healing happens in relationship, with ourselves, with others, and within the communities that shape our lives.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent years working in public health. During that time, I saw how health and well-being are deeply connected to the environments people live in, the systems they navigate, and the histories they carry. Public health taught me to look beyond individual symptoms and ask deeper questions about the broader social, cultural, and relational forces that influence our lives.
Over time, I felt called to work more closely with individuals. I wanted to sit with people in their stories, to witness the ways identity, culture, grief, trauma, resilience, and hope shape who we become.
That calling led me into the field of psychotherapy.
Today, Grounded Roots Therapy Collective exists as a space where clinical care, cultural understanding, and community healing come together. Our practice is grounded in the belief that people are not problems to be fixed, but stories to be honored and understood.
Many of the people who come to Grounded Roots are thoughtful, reflective individuals navigating life transitions, identity questions, relationships, grief, or the emotional weight of caring deeply about the world around them.
What Therapy Can Feel Like Here
At Grounded Roots, therapy often feels like a thoughtful conversation grounded in curiosity, reflection, and care. Our clinicians work collaboratively with clients, creating space to explore experiences, relationships, and patterns with honesty and compassion.
Some sessions may involve storytelling, reflection, or exploring the meaning behind life experiences. Others may include grounding practices or moments of pause that help reconnect the mind and body.
There is no single “right” way to do therapy. The process unfolds at the pace that feels most supportive for each person.
Our Approach to Healing
Our approach to therapy recognizes that mental health does not exist in isolation. Each person’s story is shaped by relationships, culture, identity, community, and lived experience.
At Grounded Roots, our clinicians draw from several therapeutic traditions that emphasize curiosity, compassion, and collaboration.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative therapy invites people to explore the stories they carry about themselves and their lives. By reflecting on these narratives, clients often discover new ways to understand their experiences and reclaim agency in their lives.
Humanistic and Person-Centered Care
We believe that people have an inherent capacity for growth and self-understanding. Therapy provides a supportive environment where individuals can explore their thoughts and emotions with openness and respect.
Relational-Cultural Perspectives
Healing happens in relationship. We recognize that connection, belonging, and mutual understanding are essential elements of well-being.
Liberation and Contextual Awareness
Our work acknowledges that emotional experiences are shaped by social and cultural realities. Therapy can offer space to reflect on how systems, expectations, and life experiences influence identity and well-being.
Somatic and Mindfulness Practices
Sometimes healing involves reconnecting with the body. Grounding practices, breath work, and mindful awareness can support emotional regulation and deepen self-understanding.
Together, these approaches create a therapeutic environment that honors each person’s complexity while supporting meaningful change.
Who We Serve
Grounded Roots Therapy Collective welcomes individuals, couples, and families seeking thoughtful, culturally responsive care.
Many of the people who find their way to our practice are navigating experiences such as:
Life transitions and identity exploration
Relationship and family challenges
Stress, burnout, and emotional overwhelm
Grief and loss
Cultural and intergenerational experiences
Trauma and healing from past experiences
Questions of purpose, meaning, and belonging
Our clinicians are particularly committed to supporting individuals navigating identity, cultural belonging, systemic stressors, and life transitions.
We strive to create a therapeutic environment where people can explore their stories with curiosity, care, and dignity.
Why the Name “Grounded Roots”?
The name Grounded Roots reflects our belief that healing is both deeply personal and deeply connected.
Roots remind us that none of us exist in isolation. We are shaped by our histories, cultures, families, and communities. Our stories live within us, even when they are difficult to name.
To be grounded means cultivating stability, presence, and awareness within ourselves—even during seasons of uncertainty or change.
At Grounded Roots Therapy Collective, therapy is a space where people can explore their histories, reconnect with their values, and strengthen the foundations that allow them to grow in new ways.
Healing is not about becoming someone new.
It is about remembering who we have always been.
Meet the Founder
Chioko Juliette Grevious, LMFT
Founder & CEO, Grounded Roots Therapy Collective
Chioko Juliette Grevious is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, public health practitioner, and doctoral student in clinical psychology whose work centers on the relationship between story, culture, and healing.
Before becoming a therapist, Chioko worked in public health, focusing on community well-being and health equity. That work shaped her understanding that mental health cannot be separated from the broader social and cultural contexts that influence people’s lives.
Her clinical approach integrates narrative therapy, person-centered care, relational-cultural theory, liberation psychology, and somatic practices. She believes that healing emerges through authentic relationships, reflection, and the honoring of each person’s lived experience.
In addition to her clinical work, Chioko is a scholar and writer exploring collective healing, spiritual narratives, and the role of storytelling in wellness. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology and is the author of the Soul Story Journal, a guided reflective practice designed to support personal and collective healing.
Through Grounded Roots Therapy Collective, she hopes to cultivate a practice where therapy feels relational, culturally responsive, and grounded in care.
Our Values
The work of Grounded Roots Therapy Collective is guided by several core values.
Relationship
Healing happens through authentic connection. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important elements of meaningful change.
Cultural Humility
We approach every person’s story with respect, curiosity, and openness. Identity, culture, and lived experience are essential to understanding each individual’s experience.
Liberation and Dignity
Mental health exists within social and historical contexts. We recognize the impact of systems and power while supporting clients in reclaiming their voice and agency.
Reflection and Growth
Healing is not a linear process. Therapy offers space for curiosity, learning, and ongoing personal development.
Community Care
Well-being extends beyond the therapy room. We believe in practices that support connection, belonging, and collective healing.
Rooted in Care
Grounded Roots Therapy Collective was created with the hope that therapy could feel both grounded and expansive—a space where people can explore their stories, reconnect with their strengths, and move toward lives that feel more aligned and whole.
Healing does not happen alone.
It grows through relationship, reflection, and community.

If you’re curious about whether Grounded Roots might be a good fit, we invite you to explore our clinicians or schedule a consultation.
Our Practice Model
Grounded Roots Therapy Collective operates as a collaborative practice model designed to support both clients and clinicians.
Our practice includes associate therapists who provide care while receiving ongoing clinical supervision, consultation, and professional development. This structure allows our clinicians to grow in their work while ensuring that clients receive thoughtful, supported care.
Each associate therapist brings their own background, areas of interest, and perspective to their work with clients. At the same time, they are supported through regular supervision and collaboration within the collective.
This model reflects our belief that therapy does not happen in isolation. Just as healing grows through relationship, strong clinical care is strengthened through learning, mentorship, and shared reflection.
Through this collaborative structure, Grounded Roots Therapy Collective is able to expand access to care while maintaining a supportive and reflective environment for both clients and clinicians.
